Aleya is an award winning dancer, and a choreographer.
She has been working and teaching in Cairo, Egypt
since November 2008. Originally from Los Angeles,
California, she moved to Cairo to immerse herself in the
culture and dance of Egypt. The move has had a
dramatic impact and has brought her closer to the
essence of authentic Egyptian style belly dance, which
has been her main passion for 13 years. She has danced
in 5 star hotels, 5 star dinner cruise boats on the Nile,
and various weddings and parties. Aleya has been
featured in numerous international publications while
living in Cairo, most notably for National Geographic
Word Travels, which included a segment on her being a
dancer and instructor in Cairo. In addition to
performing, she also teaches weekly classes and private
classes to students who travel to Cairo to learn Egyptian
style belly dance.
While living in Los Angeles, Aleya performed in all of the
top Middle Eastern nightclubs and was very well known
as a belly dance soloist. In 2003 she established Negma
Dance Company, which focused on traditional oriental
belly dance. She was also featured in film, television
shows, and music videos as well as Fox’s morning show
‘Good Day LA’ and in live concerts with Alabina and
Andy. “Aleya brought genuine magic to the showpiece”
-- Lewis Segal - dance critic for the Los Angeles Times.
Aleya has studied with some of the most renowned
teachers in the industry. A lifelong student, she
believes that you never stop learning. You can find
Aleya at most dance festivals in Cairo -- capturing on
camera the dance as it evolves -- and in the classroom,
absorbing technique of the masters of belly dance. She
has a respectable knowledge of where each movement
is generated from, and she shares these many
techniques with her students.
Aleya’s main goals now are to continue performing in
Cairo as well as share her knowledge with students
around the world. She has just returned from a tour in
California teaching workshops and performing in shows
to excellent reviews.

Aleya’s Tips:
1. Always know the meaning of songs
that you are dancing to. Nothing is
more annoying to an Arabic audience to
be dancing to a sad love song and you
are smiling like you are on Candid
Camera.
2. Work on your posture. It is so
important in belly dance. If you don’t
know the correct posture, ask
someone.
3. You don’t always have to be doing
something or overfilling with
choreography. Sometimes less is
more.
4. Practice every day. Just put on music
and start dancing. You will always be
prepared for anything.
