Travel the Silk Road, following the path of the drummers and dancers who journeyed from country to country, while learning, playing, and spreading their music and art.
This workshop will focus on the Daem of Persia.
Learn this basic Sufi pulse rhythm, known for its heavy spirituality, as well as some of the many variations it has been transformed into as it was shared along the Silk Road.
Students will not only be learning the Daem, but will also develop the feel of the rhythm and its improvisations, with a further focus on playing for dancers.
All drums are welcome in this workshop, from the traditional frame drum and zarb, to the more modern doumbek, djembe, and cajon. And, of course, all manner of percussion will find a ready place as the students become an ensemble and the spirit of the rhythm fills the room.
The workshop includes a five page handout, with the Daem and four rhythm variations.
Drums are available to lend, or of course, you can bring your own.
Each workshop is priced at $20.00 per student.
Students can also pre-register for all five workshops for $85.00.
