MAS presents Arabic Folkdance Intensive

MAS is proud to present a full day of Arabic folkdance!!! 

Saturday, July 16th, 2016
11:30am-1:30pm Saidi Intensive (tahteeb & raqs assaya)~ Dive into this fun Upper Egyptian folk dance, learning essential posture, steps, and assaya "stick" moves. There will be a few canes to borrow. If you have, please bring. No hook preferred. 

2:00-4:00pm Shikhat Intensive~ Learn this rapidly wild dance, essential hipwork, foot patterns, and understanding how to dance to differnt time signatures.

4:30-6:30pm Ghawazee Intensive~ The infamous ghawazees were the dancers most documented, filmed, written about, photographed, painted and thus hugely influencial as resources for bellydance. Posture, finger cymbals, hipwork, isolations, and traditional performing formats. Bring finger cymbals.

8:00-10:00pm Historical Roots of Bellydance lecture~ Understanding our history is invaluable knowledge for any bellydancer or enthusiast. Within this 2 hour lecture, Aubre will walk through hundreds of years of history with a specific focus on cultural context and the evolution of styles. Handouts will be available. Notebook for notes is highly recommended.

All workshops and lecture taught by Aubre Hill, whom is dedicated to sharing the diversity and richness of Arabic dance. Director of the Qabila Folkdance Co, and longtime researcher of Middle Eastern dance and cultural arts, Aubre brings over 20 years experience together for clear teaching with historical and cultural context.
